Snapshots

Snapshots are point-in-time backup of volumes that are stored remotely and be restored. Snapshots minimize risk of data loss and data corruption.

⚠️

Note: Snapshots are in public preview and are currently only suitable for testing.

Snapshot a volume

You can create a point-in-time copy of a Volume.

To create a snapshot, click Volumes (opens in a new tab) in the Koyeb control panel and select Create snapshot from the Volume actions.

Create a Volume from a Snapshot

You can restore your Snapshots and mount the new Volume to your Service in case of accidental data loss or corruption.

To create a new Volume from a Snapshot, go to Snapshot (opens in a new tab) from the Volume page and select Create volume from the Snapshot actions.

Snapshot statuses

When you snapshot a volume, there are three automatic steps:

  • Creating: the Volume is being snapshotted locally on the hypervisor. Snapshotting a volume takes a couple of seconds at most.
  • Migrating: the Snapshot is uploaded to a durable remote store for long-term storage. This takes between a couple of seconds and several minutes depending on the amount of data to copy.
  • Available: the Snapshot can be used to create a new Volume!
